Notes

From the Inquest details:

At tea-time about 6:30pm on 26 March 1950, half-brother Francis George Pfeiffer (age 19) was demonstrating how a .22 caliber "pea-shooter" gun works when the gun went off. Leslie was standing on a stool nearby. The bullet hit him in the head, passing through him and out the window. Leslie was taken to the Children's Hospital, arriving at about 8:15pm, unconscious and breathing not being normal. At 8:45pm that same night he died, aged 2 years and 11 months.

The bullet appears to have gone in through the front of his head near a temple and come out the back "ploughing through the brain". Leslie was described as well-developed, 3 feet 2 inches tall, but very pale. His lungs were acutely emphysematous and also very pale. Parts of the peripheral of his lungs had collapsed.

This was while his father Reginald was a Timber Worker, working at and residing at (with his family) the Radcliffe Mill in Marysville.

At home when this happened was Reg, Lucy, Francis George, Leslie and Rita (who was about 2 at the time). Leslie was taken by Reg to the Healesville hospital, then St Vincent's Hospital and then finally the Children's Hospital.

George said he didn't know there was a bullet in the rifle when he put it away, then when he took it down to show something to your dad, he pulled the trigger and it went off.
