Notes

Source: Research by George Tait of "Sunny Downs".
Was also a Blacksmith, like his father. Prior to his marriage he went to work in Edinburgh and lived at 108 High Street, Canongate, Edinburgh where he met Janet (Jessie) Sorlie (Sorley) of Old Assembly Close, Edinburgh.

In 1825 Robert and Janet moved from Prestonpans to the coal mining area known as Wellwood Colliery, a few miles west of the main centre of Dunfermline. Robert was employed by the Colliery as a Blacksmith and housed in one of the Colliery's small sub-standard cottages adjacent to the mine.
